Nissan Extended Warranty: What Drivers Don’t Know About This Auto Warranty

BY: Alex Perrone
nissan extended warranty

When most drivers think of Nissan, they think of it as a well-known and reputable brand worldwide. In the automotive industry, Nissan excels with its popularity. It has remained a high end, affordable, and performance player in the industry for several generations.

However, they did not achieve such great success overnight.

In fact, it took almost a century for Nissan to get where it is today and successfully capture its massive market share. This is why Nissan continues to gain popularity all over the globe, which directly leads to countless drivers clamoring for a Nissan extended warranty.

Nissan does a great job of protecting their vehicles, but like all coverage, that protection ends. That’s where Endurance comes in.

Nissan Company Overview:

Nissan Motor Company Ltd was founded in the early 1930s and they have gone through several major changes throughout the company over the decades they have been in business.

Simply put, Nissan continues to evolve everything from their brand, products, and operations. All of which have changed drastically from the early stages of their journey in the auto manufacturing industry.

Many are not aware that during the time as World War I was commenced, the company also began manufacturing motorized torpedo boats and engines for army planes.

Fast forward to today and Nissan has never been more popular as their global takeover of the automotive industry continues to excite automobile experts and drivers alike.

One of the most compelling reasons why Nissan has obtained such a massive market segment is because of its diversification. Nissan didn’t focus on one type of automobile and made slightly different variations of the same vehicle year after year.

Instead, Nissan captured a wide audience because it gave everyone what they wanted at a price they could afford.

Nissan manufactures everything from standard cars (like the Nissan Versa, Sentra, Cube, Altima), to electric vehicles and hybrids (Nissan Leaf), crossovers and SUVs (Nissan Pathfinder, Juke, Rogue, Xterra), sports cars (Nissan GT-R, 3707 Roadster and Coupe), vans and minivans (Nissan Quest and Passenger), trucks (Nissan Titan and Frontier), and so much more.

It is very easy to see why they are blazing the way for future innovations and changes in the automobile manufacturing industry.

Can Drivers Extend the Nissan Warranty?

Nissan dealerships often provide their own extended warranty or “vehicle service contracts,” but these don’t come directly from Nissan. In fact, they tend to be rather limited in scope, when it comes to the coverage options offered and flexibility of payment options.

And of course, they will be charging you a premium for the convenience of buying from the dealer.

Whether you get a new or used car, your local dealership is the middleman of this deal, and they are looking to profit somewhere on this ancillary product.

Most importantly, you are limited to have all service and repairs are to be done at participating Nissan dealers and service centers. These limits apply to both new and certified pre-owned Nissan vehicles.

Nissan Manufacturer’s Warranty Expiration Dates

If you are unsure if your Nissan warranty has expired or is about to expire, check the table below for assistance. Just replace the date January 1st with the date that you purchased your Nissan and you can see if your Nissan manufacturer’s warranty has expired or when it eventually will.

Remember that this coverage is an “either/or” situation, so if you have passed your mileage allotment before your first five years of coverage, unfortunately, your warranty has run its course and it is no longer Nissan’s responsibility to pay for anything that may fail on your vehicle.

Year Nissan Purchased:                Warranty Expiration Date:

January 1, 2018 January 1, 2023 or 60,000-miles
January 1, 2017 January 1, 2022 or 60,000-miles

January 1, 2013 January 1, 2018 or 60,000-miles

Where Can I Buy a Nissan Extended Warranty?

When choosing any vehicle, either for personal or commercial use, two of the most important aspects include:

  • available options
  • after-sales services provided by the dealer or third-party provider

Although Nissan vehicles are well known for their exceptional durability, they are not immune to mechanical or electrical breakdowns.

The chances that the buyer would need to spend more on repairs after the warranty has expired are also considerably higher than when the original factory warranty was placed on the vehicle.

This is because Nissan’s factory “bumper-to-bumper warranty” is only applicable during the validity of the given warranty period. Of course, knowing the terms of most manufacturer’s warranties helps, which is typically 3-years or 36,000-miles.

In regards to Nissan, their manufacturer’s warranty follows industry standards and provides drivers with coverage for 3-years or 36,000-miles, whichever comes first. If this sounds short to you, know that this is a typical standard warranty that a manufacturer will offer.

While there are competing automakers that offer longer terms for their factory warranty coverage, if you already own a Nissan or are set on purchasing one, there are options to extend this coverage from third-party providers, like Endurance. And many cars can qualify for coverage that picks up directly where the original warranty has ended.

NISSAN MODELS COVERED BY EXTENDED WARRANTIES

Nissan will only cover new and pre-owned vehicles made between the year 2003-present, and many coverage plans offered for high-mileage or older vehicles are rather limited.

Any car or SUV older that this or past a certain mileage threshold will no longer qualify for coverage directly from Nissan USA. At which point you will need to look into vehicle service contracts to continue protecting your vehicle from mechanical breakdown.

Nissan Vehicles Eligible for Nissan Extended Warranties:

Versa Sentra Altima
Maxima 350z GT-R
Rogue Juke Murano
Quest Pathfinder Armada
Frontier Titan Kicks

Based on your make, model, and mileage of your Nissan, you may find that your car qualifies for coverage up to 10 years or even 100,000 miles. Nissan keeps the length and terms of their extended vehicle coverage a little tighter than the usual manufacturer’s warranty.

That is why Nissan owners should shop and look into extended coverage from an independent provider, like Endurance. We offer comprehensive breakdown plans that can be an additional safety net to offer you peace of mind behind the wheel.

NISSAN EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE PLANS

There are several types of Nissan coverage options. The oddest thing about a Nissan Extended Warranty is that they don’t refer to it like an extended warranty but rather a Nissan Extended Protection Plan. The reason we say this is because we have explained countless times that the only way to label a product an “extended warranty”, is to have manufactured the product that the warranty applies to. Which Nissan does… or does it?

To answer our cliff-hanger question at the end of the previous paragraph, yes, Nissan does back their own protection plans.

The Nissan Extended Protection Plan is a plan that will protect your vehicle in the event of a part or component failure, just as a Nissan factory warranty would do.

However, unlike the original warranty, this is extra protection that drivers can choose to purchase if they see fit. And again, unlike the original Nissan warranty, these plans are not one type of protection across the board for every car.

It’s a level of protection that each driver can choose. Similar to auto insurance, a driver can choose between having basic coverage or full coverage.

AVAILABLE NISSAN EXTENDED WARRANTY OPTIONS

Extending its product offerings even further, Nissan also gives its customers a variety of vehicle protection options.

For an additional cost, Nissan drivers can add extra coverage to their plans.

This extra coverage ranges from pre-paying for scheduled maintenance (recommended vehicle tune-ups) during the life of your vehicle to extending the features of your original manufacturer’s warranty (roadside assistance, cosmetic damage, etc.) to the extended protection plan. You will find a detailed list of these options below.

In addition to providing consumers with the added protection listed above, Nissan also allows customers to protect their vehicles even further by offering services such as:

  • Theft Protection
  • Key Replacement Protection
  • Paintless Dent Repair.

All of these services will come at an additional fee and you can read more about them below.

The coverage options above will offer a driver peace-of-mind, but add a great deal to the monthly payment for the automobile. Before purchasing any of these added options, drivers should be aware of how long they intend to keep the vehicle. Refunds for supplemental coverage may not be obtainable.

A Nissan Extended Car Warranty or a Nissan Protection Plan from a Third-Party?

Both Endurance and Nissan each offer three levels of coverage. For Nissan, the levels include Powertrain Preferred, Silver Preferred, and Gold Preferred. This coverage is very similar to what Endurance offers which are labeled our Secure, Superior, and Supreme coverage plans.

Nissan Extended Warranties:                  Endurance Vehicle Protection:

Nissan Powertrain Preferred Warranty Endurance Secure Protection Plan
Nissan Silver Preferred Warranty Endurance Superior Protection Plan
Nissan Gold Preferred Warranty Endurance Supreme Protection Plan

Both contracts come with 24/7 Roadside Assistance for no additional fees which include towing service, rental car reimbursement, roadside fluid delivery/tire replacement, trip interruption benefits, and more.

Both contracts come with zero added fee payment plans. It takes the total price of coverage and divides it into equal monthly payments.

However, if one purchase a Nissan extended warranty during the time of sale at a Nissan dealership, more than likely the protection plan payments will be rolled into the monthly payment.

The total amount financed will be charged interest. Drivers wishing to still purchase coverage from Nissan and avoid the higher price due to financing fees should opt to pay for the contract separate from the car payments.

How Much Does a Nissan Extended Warranty Cost?

As you can see, these two different types of coverage don’t seem to be too different after all. In fact, the coverage offered by Endurance and Nissan is pretty similar. However, there are two major ways that these two forms of coverage will differ drastically.

An important aspect that most drivers are unaware of, is that you cannot transfer Nissan extended warranties.

For example, if you had a 2009 Nissan Sentra with a coverage plan and purchased a new 2015 Nissan Sentra, the coverage plan would not be transferable. The only available option would be to cancel the previous contract and apply for a refund when purchasing a new contract.

However, buyers who wish to transfer their Nissan agreement can do so by submitting a transfer request form. One can obtain this form from the dealer. It has to have signatures of both the previous and new owners. Please note that the new agreement can take up to 4-6 weeks.

Another factor that directly distinguishes the two coverage plans is that a Nissan protection plan doesn’t let you choose a mechanic, instead, you can only do to a Nissan dealership.

Endurance plans, on the other hand, only require that the mechanic performing the repair work is ASE certified. This may not seem like an issue until your car breaks down where there are zero Nissan dealerships close by.

Both coverage options will offer you peace of mind behind the wheel. However, the only one gives you the freedom of repair facilities, the ability to transfer coverage, award-winning customer support, and more. You should also know that by purchasing directly from Endurance, you can save big money over dealership prices. Don’t believe us?
