When Furious 7 hits theaters, moviegoers will be reunited with Vin Diesel, the late Paul Walker, and the cars that have starred in the street racing movie series for the past 14 years. Unlike previous installments of the franchise, which mostly featured customs compact sport cars and muscle cars, this one features imported supercars as befitting the globetrotting nature of the film. Here are 7 of the superstars from Furious 7, each a modern marvel of engineering and high-class automobile.

Lykan Hypersport

We mentioned the car before when talking about the coolest cars of the franchise overall but must be re-affirmed as one of the true stars of Furious 7. Here are more neat things about this car: the reason for the car’s high price tag (3^rd most expensive ever) is due to its included options. It is the first car to have diamonds in its headlights. The front lights are made up of titanium LED blades with 420 diamonds (15cts). The buyer can choose which rubies and diamonds they want embedded in the headlights. McLaren MP4-12C

The McLaren MP4-12C, is a supercar designed and manufactured by McLaren Automotive. It is the first production car wholly designed and built by McLaren since the McLaren F1, which ended production in 1998. The car’s final design was unveiled in September 2009, and was launched in mid-2011. You can see the car in Furious 7 being driven by Michelle Rodriguez’s character in the sequence set in the United Arab Emirates. Considering the known wealth and decadence of cities like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, seeing supercars like the McLaren is pretty commonplace, even if the car is anything but. The MP4-12C features a carbon fiber composite chassis, and is powered by a mid-mounted McLaren M838T 3.8-litre V8, twin-turbo engine developing approximately 592 hp (441 kW; 600 PS) and around 443 lb·ft (601 N·m) of torque. The car makes use of Formula 1-sourced technologies such as “brake steer”, where the inside rear wheel is braked during fast cornering to reduce ”under steer.” Power is transmitted to the wheels through a seven-speed seamless shift dual-clutch gearbox. Though it won’t break any records the way McLaren’s F1 did, it remains a fantastic addition to McLaren’s pantheon of great cars.

Aston Martin DB9

Action star Jason Statham (the Transporter films) plays the villainous Deckard Shaw in Furious 7. His character’s British background is reflected in his choice of vehicle which fittingly as fierce and powerful evocative of the character himself. The DB9, designed by Ian Callum and Henrik Fisker, is made largely of aluminum. The chassis is the VH platform, also found in the Aston Martin DBS. The engine, on the other hand, is the 6.0L V12 from the Aston Martin V12 Vanquish. The most recent Aston Martin has a top speed of 295 km/h (183 mph) and a 0 to 97 km/h (60 mph) time of 4.1 seconds. The Aston Martin DB9 was initially launched equipped with a 6.0L V12 engine, originally taken from its sister car, the V12 Vanquish. The engine provides 569 N·m (420 lbf·ft) of torque at 5,000 rpm and a maximum power of 456 PS (450 hp) at 6,000 rpm. Add in the renowned luxurious interior that Aston Martin is known for and you have one classy and powerful machine.

Maserati Ghibli

Featured in an early racing sequence in the film and later driven by Tyrese Gibson’s motor mouthed character, the Maserati Ghibli is flashy and agile as befitting the franchise. The current third generation Ghibli (Tipo M157) was unveiled at the 2013 Shanghai motor show. The Ghibli is offered with three different 3.0-litre V6 engines: a twin-turbocharged 330 PS (240 kW; 330 hp) or 410 PS (300 kW; 400 hp) petrol and a 275 PS (202 kW; 271 hp) turbodiesel, making the Ghibli the first Maserati production car in history to be powered by a diesel engine. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard on all models; all wheel drive is available with the most powerful V6, although not on right hand drive markets. As per every vehicle in Maserati’s history, it is a marvel of luxury, style and performance.

Bugatti Veyron

This film also features a rare opportunity to really show of the Bugatti Veyron. The car provides the elegance of the Grand Sport and the performance of the Super Sport. This baby has a maximum output of 1,200-horsepower (you read that right) and an outright sprint from 0-to-62 mph in just 2.6 seconds. It is literally the fastest production roadster ever built, outracing the once famous McLaren F1 and making it into the Guinness Book of world Records . While the maximum speed can only be taken advantage of exclusively on closed tracks, and perhaps on the set of Hollywood films, it is built with a special safeguard in “normal” handling mode, which electronically limits her to 233 mph. The Grand Sport Vitesse makes use of a full carbon fiber exterior, molded suggestively to exude luxury and power. The engine features direct fuel injection, which is a first for Ferrari mid-engine setups in its road cars. Ferrari’s official 0–100 km/h (62 mph) acceleration is 2.9-3.0 seconds. While top speed is 202 mph. It has fuel consumption in combined cycle (ECE+EUDC) of 13.3 L/100 km (21.2 mpg-imp; 17.7 mpg-US) while producing 307g/km of CO2. What all this means is that even if this is not at the top of the heap for Ferraris, it is nonetheless a machine to be reckon with.

Dodge Viper SRT-10

What’s great about these movies is that it easily attracts sponsorship from auto companies and allows them to show off their cars. In this instance, for an early part of Furious 7, Dodge decided to show off their Viper SRT-10 in coupe form. The vehicle’s name comes from the carbon fiber used to reduce the weight by 150 lbs (total down to 3200 lbs). However, even more significant were the engine modifications, which increased power to 625 hp; no torque or RPM figures were given. Along with the carbon fiber hardtop, a front splitter and rear spoiler were added; however those parts were not nearly as significant as those on the later SRT-10 ACR, and no downforce/drag information was provided to show that they were even functional. The car was only a concept. This car was used as a test mule for the development for the Generation V SRT Viper. The car is no longer a show car, and most of its specialty parts were taken off during development for the new Generation V SRT Viper.

While fans of the films may tend to obsess over the details of the heavily modified, and much more commercially available vehicles of the series, one can’t help but see that the inclusion of supercars, high-class and high-performance vehicles whose price tags go up to the millions of $US represents the evolution of the films all the way to the big blockbuster events they are now.
