In their first years on the road, Lucid’s Air and Gravity vehículos eléctricos have faced several safety recalls for hardware problems, supplier errors, and software issues. While these issues may raise questions among some consumers about reliability and quality control, they actually highlight the complexity of producing high-performance luxury EVs and the challenges an automaker faces when first starting out.
Keep reading to learn more about Lucid’s recalls, why you should consider the benefits and risks of ownership, and what you can do to keep your electric vehicle safe and running well moving forward.
Two of Lucid’s largest recalls to date involve the Air Pure Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) EVs with single-motor trim. Here’s what you should know about the Lucid Air recalls and how the manufacturer has addressed and resolved each one:
En Noviembre de 2024, Lucid recalled 1,539 Air sedans with 2024 and 2025 model years. During production, certain EVs received a shortened subframe wiring harness in the Rear Drive Unit (RDU).
While the change was unintentional, the shortened harness can put extra stress on the harness connector, causing sporadic or complete communication loss and reduced or complete power loss from the RDU. Simply put, the electric car would be unable to move forward and could slow or even stop at random because of the defect.
Lucid sent notices to owners in December 2024, advising them to schedule an appointment with their Lucid Service Center or contact Lucid Customer Care for a free wiring harness replacement.
En October 2025, the NHTSA recalled 225 Lucid Air Pure RWD EVs that may have been manufactured with half-shaft bolts that were improperly secured. Without secure bolts, the half shaft can disengage from the drive unit. If the half shaft detaches while a driver is operating the vehicle, the sedan’s power can be cut off.
On December 3, the automaker sent recall notices to affected owners, outlining the issue and offering free removal, inspection, and replacement of the bolts.
In less than two years, Lucid’s electric SUV, the Gravity, has been recalled multiple times for safety issues. While the luxury SUV is known for its roomy interior and comfortable seats, its safety problems are also attracting attention throughout the automotive industry. Learn more about the Gravity recalls and how Lucid has worked to fix them below:
En December 2025, Lucid issued a recall on its 2026 Gravity SUVs. According to the NHTSA report, some vehicles may have received the wrong front seat backrest covers due to a labeling error during production.
The supplier found that 66 SUVs may have received mismatched seat-cover labels. Consequently, the wrong covers can cause the front-seat side airbags to deploy improperly in a crash.
Lucid sent notification letters to the affected owners in February 2026. Anyone in the recall population is eligible for a free vehicle inspection of the SUV’s front seats and replacement of any mismatched covers.
One month after announcing the front-seat cover mix-up, Lucid issued another recall for certain 2025-2026 Gravity SUVs operating with software older than version 3.3.20. If the newest software updates are not installed, the rearview camera image may not appear on the screen when the vehicle is shifted into reverse. Rear visibility may be reduced, which could reduce rear visibility while reversing.
To fix the camera problem, Lucid released a free software update in December 2025 that owners could download over-the-air (OTA). Installing version 3.3.20 or any newer update will resolve the rearview camera issue. Lucid also sent letters to affected owners on March 4, 2026, to inform them of the remedy.
Lucid announced a significant recall on March 26, 2026. This time, the recall included 4,476 Gravity vehicles. The affected SUVs were manufactured before February 14, 2026.
According to the NHTSA report, an unapproved supplier change led to second-row lap belt anchor brackets being manufactured with weak welds. If the welds fail, the seatbelts might not protect passengers in a crash. Furthermore, the welded lap belt anchors do not meet Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed in late May 2026. Lucid’s remedy is free to owners and includes inspecting and repairing the seats with a reinforcing bracket and adhesive, or, if necessary, replacing the entire seat.
To learn more about Lucid’s safety recalls or get information on a specific model, you can visit NHTSA.gov. The website has a tool that lets you look up recalls by VIN. Another option is to call Lucid’s recall hotline at 1-888-995-8243.
See the table below for a breakdown of Lucid recalls, the affected models and units, and the status of the remedy as of mid-May 2026.

Lucid’s recalls have identified two major issues: supplier errors that were caught and quickly corrected, and hardware problems linked to the complexity of EV drivetrain design. These kinds of problems are nothing new and can happen to other car companies, too. Still, Lucid’s high recall rate and low production volume are factors prospective buyers may want to consider when evaluating long-term ownership.
As Lucid works to improve its quality and address supplier issues, it’s important to consider the benefits and risks involved with owning one of its vehicles. Do the latest technology and luxury features outweigh potential future repair costs and ongoing ownership considerations—especially as the vehicle ages and is no longer protected by the factory warranty?
If your answer is no, then it might be worth exploring other EV options, como Tesla or models like the Toyota RAV4 Híbrido, Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid, Honda Accord Hybrid, or Hyundai Sonata Hybrid. However, if your answer is yes, your next step should be to explore extended car warranty options to explore additional coverage options after the original warranty expires.
Lucid’s factory warranty includes broad coverage during the stated warranty period. For the first 4 years/50,000 miles of ownership, Lucid may repair, replace, or adjust covered components that malfunction or fail during normal use due to a manufacturing or factory workmanship defect.
The automaker will also cover the powertrain and high-voltage battery for 8 years/100,000 miles. But replacing the battery system, drivetrain components, and even electronics can be costly after the existing coverage terms end. This is why having a backup plan, like an extended car warranty or contrato de servicio de vehiculo, may be worth considering, depending on your repair concerns and ownership plans
If you own a Lucid Motors vehicle, then you probably know that the automaker does not offer a traditional extended warranty like other manufacturers. Therefore, once your initial warranty period ends, you’ll be responsible for any future repair costs unless you have a separate protection plan.
Battery-related coverage can vary depending on the provider, vehicle, and contract terms. For example, Endurance Warranty offers coverage options for certain EVs and hybrids; however, battery components are generally excluded from coverage. Drivers should review contratos de muestra carefully to understand available coverage options.
Even if your car falls into the luxury EV category, it can still have problems and need repairs. Also, it’s important to remember that a recall fixes a specific problem once. An EV extended warranty or contrato de servicio de vehiculo can help cover future repair costs and is especially helpful when you need to replace an expensive part in a modern car.
