Did You Have a Bad Experience With an Extended Car Warranty?

POR: Art Royzengurt
extended car warranty scam
If it looks like an extended car warranty scam, it probably is. Find out what to watch out for here!

The other day we had a woman call in asking about our service. She had just seen one of our commercials and you could tell she seemed extremely skeptical. After awhile, she admitted that she had previously gotten an extended car warranty from a car dealer.

Now, not all car dealers sell lousy products. In fact, many dealers throughout the nation actually vend our contracts. We stand behind our product, and so do the dealers we work with. Unfortunately, this customer did not go to a dealer with Endurance contracts. Find out what she had to say.

We asked Lynn (the caller) if she we could share her story here, and she graciously agreed. She admitted that she bought a lemon and didn’t want anyone else to make the same mistake with an extended car warranty.

Lynn’s Extended Car Warranty Timeline:

May 2010– Lynn purchases a used 2007 Ford Focus from a local dealership. When setting up financing arrangements, she is asked if she wants to purchase extended car warranty. She likes the idea of not having to pay for repair bills, so she agrees.

December 2010– Lynn’s vehicle check engine light comes on and she takes it to get repaired. Because she didn’t bring it back to the original dealer, she has to pay for the repairs and wait to be reimbursed. After 3-weeks of calling, she finally gets her check.

February 2011– Car needs repairs again, but this time Lynn brings it to the dealer. The water pump needed to be replaced and they tell her she will be called when it’s ready. Needing something left in her vehicle, she goes to the dealership to retrieve it. Dealer outsourced her vehicle to a local shop to make more income on full-paying customers’ repairs.

July 2011– Lynn’s husband starts a new position and receives a company car. Lynn decides to start driving his old car and sell her Ford Focus. Her extended car warranty cannot be transferred to a new owner or car. Lynn must forfeit her auto protection with her vehicle.

While this is only one story, we’re still sympathetic to what Lynn had to go through and know others have gone through it as well. She ended up losing the money she paid for her extended car warranty in the end. We’re happy to say that she’s now an Endurance customer. And while she’d hate for her car to break down, she can’t wait to put our service to the test.

*A Vehicle Service Contract (VSC) is often referred to as an “extended warranty”, but is not a warranty.  A VSC does, however, provide repair coverage for your vehicle after the manufacturer’s warranty expires. A VSC is a contract between you and a VSC provider or administrator that states what is a covered repair and what is not. Endurance is an administrator of VSCs and does not sell warranties.*
