This doesn’t earn the 2014–2015 Cruze a thumbs-up, but rather an advisory to approach these model years with caution. After all, the same 1.4T engine is still under the hood of many examples.

2016–2019: Newer Generation

If you’re set on buying a Chevy Cruze, focus on the 2016–2019 model years (the second generation). The second-generation Cruze introduced for 2016 used a redesigned 1.4L turbocharged engine and differed substantially from the powertrain used in the first-generation Cruze.

However, don’t be confused by the two different versions that Chevrolet sold in 2016. The Cruze Limited is a continuation of the first-generation model, so shoppers shouldn’t confuse it with the redesigned second-generation 2016 Cruze. It was sold only for 2016, alongside the regular (second-generation) 2016 Cruze. The 2016–2017 Cruze has the highest reliability ranking (average) from Consumer Reports.
